So I've been convinced to (or more like brainwashed into) buying Skyrim. I THINK it is available in Turkey now but in between looking for it and having to actually leave the house I am also considering Steam as an option.

(Only ye gods big download)

Anyone actually tried using Steam before? How does it work (you get a copy of the setup file for yourself or do you have to redownload it each time?)

I am not going to ask about activation because I know the game requires a steam account even if I buy it boxed. (irritating...)

I've only ever bought two games from Steam; you just remined me that it got wiped when I set up my computer again so I need to check if how re-installing/re-download works myself... oops. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I've used (and still use) Steam. I'm not sure I understand your question, so if this is the answer to the wrong question, I'm sorry. :)

You download the game from steam to install on your computer. Once it is downloaded (baring updates) you don't have to download it again to play it on that computer, but if you want to install it on a second computer or uninstall it from your computer, then later reinstall it, you will have to download the files again.
The really advantage to steam is that you can legally buy the game once and then play it at any computer that you want - and without having to find the installation disc. :)
Hope this is helpful. :)

For backup (I've asked my boyfriend who know far more about this than me). It is possible to backup the files:
Right click on a game in your library, select backup game files (only possibly once it is installed)

Hope this helps. :)
(I can try and answer any more questions if you have any) :)

Heya 8)
You must get it. YOU MUST!
I've been playing it for the past week, and yes, there are flaws (as to be expected with any game of this sheer, massive size), but the completeness of the world they've created is absolutely wonderful for immersing yourself in to escape whatever ails you in the real world. Easily my game of the year vote and one of my favourite games of all time.
As to Steam - it's a great system, if you've got good bandwidth. If you've got poor bandwidth, i wouldn't waste the time with it. Once you've purchased the game, it's yours. You can re-download it as many times as you want. But for big titles like this, i just wouldn't want to risk download errors, or spend the bandwidth on it.
Just go out, get the discs, and install it. Then you don't have to wait, and will always have it physically with you (which is no small thing - it's a precious artifact!) 8)
Take care and enjoy. (And let me know what you think!)
